Gin Rummy is Back
Gin Rummy is a classic that hasn’t gone out of style. We launched the original Gin Rummy for iPhone about a year ago with sub-par results. Thinking this was one of those apps that would just be “okay” it sat on the App Store for months without having much impact. After reviewing downloads (or lack thereof) we decided to reinvent the game including new graphics, avatar choices, gameplay and opponents.
There were differing opinions around PressOK as to how the revitalized game would perform on the App Store. People were split - some thought the classic card game still had a strong following and with the right tweaks, we could find that audience. Others assumed the game was dead and we were wasting our time and resources. Well, the proof is in the pudding as they say.
After two plus months on the App Store, Gin Rummy Multipack has done well and (almost more importantly) has been consistent. Ten days after the new version hit the App Store, Gin Rummy Multipack found a very comfortable position in the top 10 of the Games/Card category and hasn’t budged. In an industry full of ups, downs and unpredictability, we like that.
If you like card games then you’ll like Gin Rummy. The gameplay is the same as it was when our grandparents played ages ago, but it’s in a new, fun format that keeps you engaged. If you like mixing up your avatar and your opponent, there’s that but if you’re more of a purist card player you’ll find what you’re looking for. It’s very easy to pick up at any time for a few hands versus the smack-talking Bubbles the Panda or a sultry blond bombshell - your choice.
